Waste Land:
Towards the end of the film Vik Muniz, the artist responsible for the project says, "I would rather have nothing and want everything than have everything and want nothing. When you want something your life has meaning." The men and women who pick garbage for a living that Vik works with have nothing, they want anything - Vik shows them to somehow want meaningful, highly artistic and intellectual understanding of themselves and the world - even when they might go to bed hungry. This movie makes viewers understand that beauty is everywhere, and capable of all those who believe in themselves. It shows that art has a greater purpose; we come to know and love ourselves when we create and learn about it, even to those born in the most base of circumstances; it convinced me that art can save. This film convinced me to look at "waste" differently and realize those with nothing are not "wasted", if only they find meaning and purpose in their own way, and that is beautiful.
